Ring size guide

Find the right fit.

Measure at home, check the chart, or size a ring for a surprise.

The most accurate way

A jeweler's sizing tool is still the surest way to know your size. Most jewelers will measure your finger for free.

For a custom piece, we always recommend professional sizing. If that isn't practical, the methods below will get you close, and Josh can help you confirm your size on your consultation call.

Measure a ring you own

This is the most reliable way to size at home. Choose a ring that fits the finger you're sizing well.

  1. Lay the ring flat on a ruler marked in millimeters.
  2. Measure the inside of the ring, edge to edge, across its widest point. Don't include the metal.
  3. Find that number in the inner diameter column of the chart. If it falls between two sizes, choose the larger.

The string or paper method

Useful when you don't have a ring to measure. Treat the result as a starting point, not a final size.

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or a length of non-stretchy string.
  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger. It should feel snug but still slide over your knuckle.
  3. Mark where the end overlaps, then lay it flat and measure to the mark in millimeters.
  4. Find that number in the circumference column of the chart.

Be aware that this method is less accurate. String can stretch, paper can twist, and pulling a little tighter or looser can move the result by half a size or more. Measure three times and use the result you get most often.

Tips for a true fit

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are often slightly larger in the evening.
  • Make sure your hands are warm. Cold fingers shrink, while heat, exercise and salty food can make them swell. Avoid measuring at either extreme.
  • Mind the knuckle. Your ring has to slide over it. If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of your finger, size for the knuckle so the ring goes on comfortably.
  • Wide bands fit tighter. For a wide band, consider going up a quarter to a half size.
  • Size the right hand. Your dominant hand is often slightly larger, so measure the finger the ring will be worn on.

Sizing for a surprise

Planning a proposal? The simplest trick is to borrow a ring they already wear on that finger. Measure its inner diameter as above, then return it before it's missed.

A ring from a different finger is still a helpful clue, but finger sizes vary, so let us know where it came from. A close friend or family member may also know their size. If you're unsure, err slightly larger.

If your size changes

Finger sizes change with weight, temperature and age. That's normal. We resize our own pieces and rings from other jewelers, and we'll give you an honest, upfront quote. Some designs, like full eternity bands, are difficult to resize, so getting the size right first matters more. See resizing & repairs for details.

Common questions

What's the most accurate way to find my ring size?

Have your finger measured by a jeweler. It's quick and free at most jewelers. For a custom order, we always recommend professional sizing.

What if I'm between two sizes?

Choose the larger size. A ring that's slightly loose is more comfortable than one that's tight, and wide bands fit more snugly than thin ones.

Can my ring be resized later?

Yes. We resize our own pieces and rings from other jewelers. The cost depends on the metal, how much sizing is needed and the design, so share the details and we'll give you an honest, upfront quote.

Can you help me confirm my size before you make my ring?

Yes. Josh can walk you through sizing on your consultation call and confirm it with you before production begins.

Not sure of your size?

Josh can help you confirm it before anything is made.
